Rutgers ROTC Run For The Warriors™
RACE RESULTS
Hope for the Warriors™ Host Soldiers in NYC-NJ 5K Run at Rutgers University
Give me your weak, your tired, your wounded…
Wounded soldiers from Fort Bragg, NC took to the skies Friday, September 19th, destined for New York City. Hope for the Warriors™,
a national non-profit organization assisting those wounded in combat, provided these heroes their wings.
The weekend kicked off with a tour of the Vietnam Veterans Plaza in downtown Manhattan. Mr. Harry Bridgwood, Chairman of the
Board for Friends of the Vietnam Veterans Plaza, welcomed the soldiers and presented the tour of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
and Walk of Honor.
Following the tour of the Veterans Plaza, the fireman from Vinegar Hill Firehouse Engine 80, Ladder 23 in Harlem, hosted
the service members for lunch.
On Saturday morning, soldiers participated in the 1st Annual Rutgers Army ROTC Run for the Warriors™ in New Brunswick, NJ.
The soldiers were honored in a pre-race ceremony and received a visit by New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, where he recognized
their service and thanked them for their sacrifice.
The first annual race aboard the Rutgers University campus raised an impressive $13,000 with proceeds going to support
programs for Hope for the Warriors™.
The trip wrapped up on Sunday in giant style when the 2008 Super Bowl Champions, The NY Giants, hosted the soldiers
to an afternoon of football at their home stadium.
After the game, the Giants headed to the locker room with a win and the soldiers headed home with a victory all their own.
